Can a three month old pitbull get along with a ten month old cat???

hi me and my girl friend need as much help as we can get. we just rescued a three month old pit from animal control and we already have a cat that we also rescued, but she has never been around a nother dog before. the cat is some what kind of pressy and is only used to just being her. the dog wants to see what the cat is but i think the cat gets kinda scared because it's big for a three month old, but the cat wont strike it just hisses at her. Is there any thing we can do so that may get along???
