Is using a horsehair head just as affective as a synthetic pad head?

i've been curling for a while now and i'm considering using a horsehair broom head for my broom. but i just want to know how effective it is at sweeping. is there advantages and disadvantages? because i want to try something a little different from my synthetic head. but is using horsehair just as good? should i try it?
